What is chain piecing?
Chain piecing is a technique that is popularly used for streamlining multiple quilt pieces. This technique allows you to sew a number of quilt pieces in one continuous and ongoing loop. This method is highly effective for speeding up the process of quilting patches. The characteristic of this technique is that patches are usually aligned, and fed through the machines one after the other without braking their order and most importantly without breaking the threads between them. Some experts also compare this procedure to an assembly line piecing. The patches used in this technique are also identical. In this highly accurate procedure or technique you don't encounter the necessity of backstitching the secure ends of a seam. The best part is this method is that it is easy to understand and even easier to master in quilting.
Procedure:
Chain piecing quilts follows a simple procedure. Firstly, you can begin by stitching a seam. Next, don't remove this seam from the machine, but immediately insert the next piece that you intend to stitch. This procedure can be followed till a long chain is created. Don't overdo piecing the fabrics, as the finished chain may look overlong and bulky. Finally, you can snip of the extra thread between the units of the fabric. The chain will now be ready to be pressed. There are a few tips you can follow while following this procedure. For instance, you can align your fabrics to prepare them for sewing. A medium hot iron can also be placed on top of each units of fabric to stick the material together. This simple procedure can be followed perfectly by both novices and experts.
This technique is guaranteed to save a substantial amount of your time and at the same time ensure accuracy of the finished quilt.
