In quilting, you need to make use of a large number of small and large tools. Tools like sewing pins are especially important for carrying out basic quilting operations. Thus, to be an expert quilter, you need to be first well informed on the different aspects of sewing pins.
Types:
Sewing pins are used for holding or piecing appliqu patterns in place before they can be stitched. Different types of sewing pins are available for all your quilting needs. The most common pins are however the long quilters pins which are used to hold the top three layers of the quilt before being subjected to blasting or stitching. Rusty pins can be very detrimental to your quilt because more often than not they leave rust stains on your fabrics.
Importance:
Sewing pins are often ignored and their role underestimated in quilting. However, expert quilters do know that a good sewing pin can help take you few extra paces ahead in your project. For instance, if you are not aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the sewing pins, you may choose overlarge pins, where shorter varieties are required. This can lead to gaping holes, which can be unsightly especially in case of appliqu pieces. Thus, don't dare and forget the role of modest sewing pins, if you wish to move ahead on the ladder of your expertise.
