How to square up the quilt blocks:
It is really frustrating to do all the right things in quilting and yet be confronted with a quilt that has its sides going haywire in all directions. Nevertheless all experts have been there and done that. They also discovered that by squaring up the quilt blocks they could avoid all the costly mistakes and finish up their quilt in style. Thus, to have an accurate quilt, simply square up the quilt blocks.
Squaring the blocks:
Quilters use different techniques of squaring up their quilt blocks. One popular method involves the use of a freezer paper. In this method, you first need to cut the freezer paper in the exact shape of your blocks. You then need to draw as many lines as required on the paper, which will help you to position the block on the paper. Drawing two straight lines along the vertical and horizontal centers are however a must. Then you can proceed ahead by putting your block on a board. The freezer paper can be placed on top of the block accurately. You can align the freezer paper and the blocks properly by fastening them with pins. Once you are convinced that the two are aligned perfectly, press down on the paper as firmly as possible. Finally, you can remove the pins and see for yourself the way in which the sewn seam area is caught onto the quarter inch area of the edges of the block. This method can be followed for squaring up all your quilt blocks.
Advantages:
The greatest advantage of this method is that it is easy to follow. It can be done anytime and with any type of freezer paper. This also helps you to keep the blocks in -square as you work on skewed quilts. Many other methods can also be used for squaring up your quilt blocks. However, this is by far the easiest. However, you need to thoroughly inspect all the methods before choosing the one you find the easiest and the most accurate to follow while squaring up your quilt blocks.
